[-ʃa, Sanskrit »Thesaurus des Amara«], wichtigstes Werk der Sanskrit-Lexikographie. Der Verfasser Amara (Amarasimha) lebte wahrscheinlich zwischen dem 6. und dem 8. Jahrhundert n. Chr. Beim Amarakosha handelt es sich im Wesentlichen um ein Synonymwörterbuch, bestimmt für die Verwendung in der Kunstdichtung (Kavya). Neben der Bedeutung für den Wortschatz des Sanskrit ist der Amarakosha eine wichtige kultur- und literaturgeschichtliche Fundgrube.
